Cineculture releases fall line-up

Cineculture is a student club (and 3 unit class) at Fresno State that strives to provide culture awareness through film screenings and discussions. The club released their new fall line-up today, plus details about their first screening which will take place this Friday, August 29 at 5:30pm in McLane Hall Room 121 on the Fresno State campus. Best of all, entry is free!

Iron-Jawed Angels. Dir: Katja von Garnier, 2004. 123 min.
This film recounts for a contemporary audience a key chapter in U.S. history: in this case, the struggle of suffragists who fought for the passage of the 19th Amendment. Focusing on the two defiant women, Alice Paul (Hilary Swank) and Lucy Burns (Frances O'Connor), the film shows how these activists broke from the mainstream women's-rights movement and created a more radical wing, daring to push the boundaries of political protest to secure women's voting rights in 1920. (www.hbo.com). Post-screening discussion by Jenny Whyte (Women's Resource Center Coordinator).

I'm gonna try to make it out there myself. Sounds like an interesting film, eh? Scope out the trailer below.

Surviving Hollywood panel at CSU Fresno Summer Arts tomorrow

Maybe, if all goes well, one of these days we'll all be able to make it in Hollywood. The reality is that it's probably not gonna happen but in case you do make it, how are you going to survive? Well here comes the Summer Arts program at Fresno State to answer that very question with their panel Surviving Hollywood. The panelists will include:

Michael Berlin — A screenwriter and playwright. He has written, produced, or consulted on more than 150 television episodes, for series ranging from Miami Vice, MacGyver, Hunter, Cagney and Lacey to Sisters, Murder She Wrote, Diagnosis: Murder, The Commish, Beauty & The Beast, The Outer Limits, and many others

Alan Jacobs — A founding trustee of the Sundance Institute, an original board member of the Independent Feature Project, and a former trustee of the American Film Institute. His independent film and video production company, The Film Foundry Inc., is a signatory at the Writers Guild of America.
Matthew Jacobs — Screenwriter, director, and producer. His credits include Mothertime (BBC), Lassie (Paramount), Young Indiana Jones Chronicles (Lucasfilm), Dr. Who (Fox), The Emperor's New Groove (Disney), and more.

John Schimmel — Producer and Vice President of Development, Ascendant Pictures. His credits include Collateral Damage, Only Hope, Outlander, The Big White, and more.

Jule Selbo — Professor at California State University at Fullerton and professional screenwriter. Her credits include: Hard Promises, Hunchback of Notre Dame II, Cinderella II, Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, Melrose Place, Life Goes On, HBO's Women Behind Bars, and more.

Never heard of any of these people but their resumes look mighty impressive! I've always wanted to attend the Summer Arts stuff but it always becomes a time issue (the whole "full time job" thing kinda gets in the way) but this event is open for everyone and is late in the evening. The panel is this Wednesday, July 9th at 7pm at the Wahlberg Recital Hall and should be the perfect place to get your learn on about all the Hollywood mumbo jumbo. Tickets are $7 for students and $10 for general. For more info, head on over to the official site for the Summer Arts program here & hope to see some of you there!

Local Boy Does Good....Again

So, Mr. Bryan Harley, your everywhere these days. If it's not designing award wining Web sites, making films or winning contests....it's appearing in the online edition of the NY Times. After giving the man crap for standing stoopid holding giant "I AM" cutouts, I have been pwned. He won some cash and now getting publicty for his mad video skills. Congrats, Mr. Harley. He's available for weddings and birthday parties as well (he loves doing those)....actually, if were to do those, he'd probably win some kind of award for those, too. Fucken guy.....this why I've tagged him to shoot Blur for me! Sir, if you can win awards for this, you are truly a god!
